Gaulteria or wintergreen essential oil (Gaultheria procumbens) it comes from Nepal, it is the main ingredient used for the preparation of Tiger balm, also present in Canada and used by the Inuit as a universal pain reliever.

Gaulteria essential oil is composed of 95/98% from methyl salicylate (of the family of Acetylsalicidic acid), considered an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, is used in aromatherapy to relieve muscle and joint pain. It was used as a preanesthetic in dentistry until about the 1970s.
Traditionally used to treat respiratory ailments and against coughs.
Used for the preparation of red tiger balm to which it gives the typical fragrance and red colour.
Suggested uses:
- Bath tub: a few drops of essential oil emulsified in coarse salt or milk or cream or honey to put in hot water (used to prevent the oil from volatilizing due to the heat)
